Since 1989, as managing partner of James Sweeting, III, P.A., currently organized as The Law Offices of James Sweeting III LLC., Mr. Sweeting has been a leader and innovator in the establishment and organization of small leading-edge law firms.
Mr. Sweeting was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on June to James Sweeting Jr., and Dr. Lurlene Sweeting. Both parents being educators placed a premium on education. Mr. Sweeting received his secondary education, at Landsdown Friends and Friends Select Schools in Philadelphia.
Upon graduating from High School he attended Temple University and received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Finance in May of 1983.
After graduating from Temple University, Mr. Sweeting enrolled in Stetson University College of Law, “Florida’s first Law School” where he received his Juris Doctorate Degree in December of 1986.
Thereafter Mr. Sweeting sought admission to the Florida Bar. Mr. Sweeting was licensed and admitted to practice law in Florida on October 30th, 1987.
Upon admission to the Florida Bar, Mr. Sweeting worked with such firms as Perry & Lamb, P.A., of Sanford, and Shea & Associates, P.A., of Tampa.
Mr. Sweeting has taught at Bethune Cookman University and Stetson University, and has participated in numerous seminars and conferences related to the practice of law.
Mr. Sweeting is active in his community and has received various awards from organizations such as the Florida Teaching Profession-National Education Association, (FTP-NEA), Orange County Classroom Teachers Association, and Seminole County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He has appeared on national television to discuss legal issues of social importance, and conducted oral argument before the Fifth District Court of Appeal of the State of Florida in Medious v. State Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, 534 So.2d 729 (Fla. 5DCA 1988); as well as participated in oral argument before the Florida Supreme Court in Johnson v. State, 602 So. 2d 1288 (Fla. 1992).
Mr. Sweeting remains active championing causes of importance to our community and our nation as well as providing the vision and leadership which allows the firm to provide effective representation to it’s clients.
